Welcome to Brighton Fashion and Textile School.
I established BFaTS to provide structured courses of learning for students who want to work towards accreditation in textiles. I am a qualified experienced tutor and am approved by City and Guilds.
I also teach a variety of other short non-accredited courses in Brighton. There are courses for all interests and abilities. I teach 1 day workshops through to 2 year in-depth City and Guilds Level 3 Textiles courses in Patchwork and Quilting. Each year I teach summer schools where students can set up their work station on a Monday and not have to tidy up until Friday. Students usually complete a quilt top in one of these fun weeeks. Please check out my Course page for a full list and details of how to enrol.
Some will have read there have been some big changes to the patchwork and quilting courses that City & Guilds will be offering in the future. So I thought I would let you know what the current situation is for courses available here at BFaTS.
As I have been teaching the most up to date version of the curriculum I will be able to continue enrolling students on the 7161-13 Level 3 Certificate in Textiles: Patchwork and Quilting until 2018.
For those students who want to progress to the 7716 Diploma in Design and Craft: Patchwork and Quilting course the deadline is a bit more urgent. If you want to enrol for this course you will need to let me know by 17 May 2017. This is the last chance to enrol for this course. The latest information from C&G states that students will no longer be able to enrol on this course after the May 2017 deadline.
So if you have been putting off enrolling for the Diploma course now is the time to decide. In order to secure a place you will need to complete an enrolment form and pay a non-returnable registration fee of £55 by 17 May 2017.
Students who have not yet completed their Certificate course can also enrol at this point to secure a place to start in September 2018.
New course lesiure course are added to the website frequently so sign up and stay in touch via my newsletter and i’ll keep you updated.
I hope you’ll explore and have a good look around this site – there’s lots to see. Check out the Resources and Tips page for a list of great local and online suppliers and other things I recommend. In my blog You will see I have been sharing instructions for sashiko patterns as part of an online competition I have been running as well as things that are of interest from the world of textiles.
Last Autumn I attended the Korean Bojagi Symposium in Suwon and Seoul to learn more about Korean patchwork. I was totally enthralled by this type of patchwork and am looking forward to sharing this with you in my upcoming workshops both here and at the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham. Have a look at my courses page.
Also while you are here why not take a peek at the galleries of student work past and present. Very Inspirational.
I look forward to meeting you in person, one day on one of the courses.
